Our Legacy
The Callipari family boarded a ship in Messina Sicily arriving at Port Melbourne 19 May 1951. They came from a small town in Calabria called Natile, which was and still is a subsistence farming community.
From "humble beginnings and traditional offerings" their wines and food carry that philosophy. In 1950, the late Michele Callipari arrived in Australia in the quest to find a better life for his family.
The family worked for various families in the region, eventually saving enough to buy their own property in Irymple in late 1954. Michele and Elena sold the property and bought another at Nichols Point in 1959, next to a property which their oldest son, Giuseppe, had bought in 1956 and which is where Callipari Wine & Food is now located.
Three generations of Callipari’s now live in Mildura.
Most of the families have acquired their own vineyards and are involved in the Mildura community in hospitality, hairdressing, legal services, administration, teaching, the automotive trade and transport, business development, winemaking, fashion design, health and fitness and the performing arts.
Other descendents of the Callipari family have moved to other parts of Australia to quest a better life for their family as did their ancestors.
Fifty years on, their wines and foods were released to be enjoyed by all for many years to come. SALUTI A TUTTI !
THE CALLIPARI FAMILY
The Callipari Winery was set up by Michael Callipari (3rd generation) and his family in 1999 and is still under construction.
A number of medals have already been collected for their wines Michael Callipari believes the best is yet to come, as the vineyard ages and their facility improves.

Callipari Wine
Callipari is a Boutique Winery and was established in 1997 by the Callipari Family. We make our wines using both traditional & modern techniques.
At Callipari we try to impart the terroir into our wines and gently nurture our finished product from what nature has provided us with.
Our wines are low preservative, full flavored & ethically grown with grapes from the family vineyards.
Vineyards
Callipari has approximately 40 hectares of vines planted to specially selected vines. Each of the cuttings (vines) for the vineyard were taken from selected vineyards that we knew had made outstanding wines. "Good wine is made in the vineyard"
Callipari grow their grapes in three areas of the Murray Darling. The Karkarooc vineyard grows red varieties, Nichols Point vineyard grows Chardonnay & the Cardross vineyard grows Shiraz & the Ned Kelly Moscato wines.
The Karkarooc vineyard is planted to; Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Franc. The Grenache & Cabernet Franc in the vineyard was first planted in 1995 with the first wine made in 1997. The Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot were planted in 1997 with the first vintage from these vines released in 2000.
The Nichols Point vineyard is the original vineyard owned by the Callipari family, Giuseppe having purchased the property in 1956. The original Sultana & Waltham Cross vineyard was upgraded to Chardonnay in 2001 with the first crush of Chardonnay in 2002.
Vintages
Callipari Wines first vintage was 1997.
100 cases were made and this was given and sold to family and friends. (a few cases still remain)
In 2000 we produced around 800 cases of 3 blends which can be purchased from the Cellar Door.
2001 saw our production escalate to higher levels than planned & Ned Kelly Red was created. The current vintages are available for you to enjoy.
